Does It Look Like A Party???

The theme is “Land of Lincoln—200 Years of the Pioneer Spirit”.

I wanted the top to look like the skyline was bursting from the cake–kind of like fireworks—so the buildings are purposely skiwampus! (Yeah…spell check didn’t know how to spell “skiwampus” either)

Around the bottom of the cake there are timeline tags, showing areas where native Illinoisans exemplified the pioneer spirit.



So my question is this….is this a classic example of “Over-Decorator-Itis”?? There is a LOT going on with this cake. Originally there were three tiers using the pillars you see on bridal cakes, but I just didn’t like the look with the pillars. So I took everything for the three cakes—and squished them on to two. So yes, it’s a busy cake. But is it too busy??
