This was NOT supposed to look this way. I wanted to either make a Tinkerbell cake or a Shrek cake. You can see by the flowers that Tinkerbell was my choice. But when it came time to adding the cake mushroom to the top, and the fondant Tinkerbells around the side—I really liked the simple design too much to add them. It needs a topper—but I think it’s a pretty cute little ‘change of plans’.
Last year I was at the Hobby Lobby and found these darling, whimsical cake platforms–but they were way too expensive. There were three sizes, the largest was $40.00, medium $30.00 and the smallest was $20. NEVER would I even think of spending this kind of money on cake platforms. But just a few months ago I found them on clearance and paid less than $20 for all three together. How cool is that!
This cake would probably fit into the realm of Mother’s Day, Bridal Shower or a more grown up birthday. In this house—it’s going to be for Father’s Day! So Honey…..Man up!!

The poker cake was for a surprise 30th birthday. It in no way, shape or form matches the image I had for it in my head! But…with every hobby shop within a 30 mile radius being out hexagon shaped pans…and me not being able to hand pipe decent playing cards…this is the best it gets!
You will notice as you scroll through most of my cakes, I avoid “writing” on cakes. It’s not that I can’t do it…I just don’t think I do it well. That is one area I need to just sit and practice……piping handwriting!

Handbags seem to be the new “cake”! They pop up on every cake show and that made me want to try my hand at one. Now, when I first envisioned a purse cake, it had a rigid purse structure–so easy to work with in cake. When we decided to try to copy my niece’s favorite handbag, I stressed over having to stencil the Coach “C” back to front all over the little half moon purse. What I got…far more stressful! A distressed leather Dolce & Gabbana hobo. Super cute purse….super stressful cake!
One of these days…I still wanna try my hand at the half moon Coach…I’ll let’cha know how it goes!

This is another fast cake. Honestly, I’m starting to question my life if 90% of my cakes are thought of and delivered in just a few hours! This was for my father in law’s birthday. I have known him as Archie all 12 years of my marriage…but it’s not his name! Apparently when he was younger he looked just like Archie in the comic strip and the name stuck.
I’d never seen Archie before and had to look him up online, then employing the same toothpick technique I used in the hockey puck cake, I created the face and the comic strip title font for this cake. Considering I’d never seen Archie before, and I made this cake in about 3 hours…I think he turned out pretty cute!
