Grave Digger Birthday Cake

Arrow Of Light Bridge Cake

Cake Week 001

Last weekend was the Raingutter Regatta for the Cub Scouts.  After talking about cake, I was asked to make a cake for the Arrow of Light Transition pack meeting coming up 2 days later.  Now—I’ve only ever seen one other Arrow of Light anything–I believe it was 1982 or so, when my brothers got theirs.  So after talking with some of the scout leaders—we came up with something like this!

I will be the first to admit that this isn’t one of my best—-but in my defense…It was made in about 2 hours….and it tasted REALLY good!

Dolce & Gabbana

Handbags seem to be the new “cake”! They pop up on every cake show and that made me want to try my hand at one. Now, when I first envisioned a purse cake, it had a rigid purse structure–so easy to work with in cake. When we decided to try to copy my niece’s favorite handbag, I stressed over having to stencil the Coach “C” back to front all over the little half moon purse. What I got…far more stressful! A distressed leather Dolce & Gabbana hobo. Super cute purse….super stressful cake!

One of these days…I still wanna try my hand at the half moon Coach…I’ll let’cha know how it goes!

The 2nd (Cooler) Guitar

This cake fits under the category “My mom can do anything!” Not that it’s true, but to my 11 year old…he certainly thought it with this guitar! This wasn’t my first guitar, but it was definitely my best. But even now, after it’s finished I discovered a new fabulous way to make the strings…spaghetti noodles! I tried to pipe the strings for both guitars and you know, it’s just not that easy. Then I watched a cake expert make Elvis’ birthday cake…and he used spaghetti…I LOVE it!

Optimus Prime

With a blockbuster movie, it was only a matter of time before someone asked for a Transformer cake. This cake was SO MUCH fun to make, but as with previous customer orders….SO MUCH STRESS!! Every piece is carved from a two layer cake, covered in fondant, painted and then embellished with fondant details. His face was the first time I’d ever actually sculpted something out of fondant, and you know, I was surprised at just how easy it was, and how cool it turned out.
