Dawson’s Princess Cake

Carriage Pan

This cake was made using my “quickie” Costco sheet cake method.  It’s really the only thing I’ve ever used when I’ve had to use a shape pan from Wilton. This carriage cake was made using a mixture of strawberry cake and pound cake.  It was frosted underneath the piping with white chocolate buttercream–and simple buttercream for the piping.  It matched the picture that it came with exactly.

This would be a case where good lighting is needed when decorating.  As I was piping the pinks the night before I was tempted to pull the dark pink off.  The picture called for hot pink–and all I could see was salmon pink.  But since I was nearly finished with the piping—it would have caused more damage than it was worth–so I left it.  It wasn’t until we were in the sunlight, delivering the cake that I realized that it was, in fact, hot pink.

Methinks it’s time to change the light bulbs!!

Copy Cat

Yes…that’s me!

In the next couple of weeks I have several cakes due, but when they are done…this is the cake I want to make next!

gateaux

I LOVE it!  I have been catching up with my Food Network Challenges, and Gateaux, Inc had one of the featured decorators (she took an amazing second place), but during her intro-they showed this cake.  I’m not sure I’ll make the wedding cake–I think I may try it in light pink, and only 2 tier–for a birthday cake or something.  But someday—-I will have tried this amazing cake!

Miss Chrissy’s Cake

CC

I’m on Facebook—and I talk about cakes and fondant A LOT!  One day–after many posts and threads pertaining to the two a friend happened to mention that we were giving her cravings.  Well, the only “friendly” way to relieve such pain and suffering—I made her a cake!

What you don’t see is that this is a quad-layer decadent carrot cake with a yummy cream cheese frosting.  I never really realized how difficult it is to create a cake—for no particular reason.  No Happy Birthday—no wedding…just a plain old every day “Friend” cake.  I think it looks a bit like an English hat–but hey, it was cute–and I got to use my fun little cake stand!

Arrow Of Light Bridge Cake

Cake Week 001

Last weekend was the Raingutter Regatta for the Cub Scouts.  After talking about cake, I was asked to make a cake for the Arrow of Light Transition pack meeting coming up 2 days later.  Now—I’ve only ever seen one other Arrow of Light anything–I believe it was 1982 or so, when my brothers got theirs.  So after talking with some of the scout leaders—we came up with something like this!

I will be the first to admit that this isn’t one of my best—-but in my defense…It was made in about 2 hours….and it tasted REALLY good!
